Daniel Guarneri
City and State you and your spouse were reared: I was born and raised in Piscataway, NJ.
How long have you been members of Straightway Baptist Church? I am a charter member. I left for college but now I am back for good.
Who invited you to join our church, or what interested you in joining our church? My father is the Pastor.
Interesting story, incident, or answer to prayer:
While in Indiana for Bible college on a dark Sunday night in Hammond, my mind was wandering in church. While wandering, my mind came to the harsh realization that I had not shared the gospel with anyone this week and I had made a commitment to witness to one person a week. My heart sunk deep into my chest. The week earlier, I was able to see a sailor come down from the naval base, and I was unable to get a chance to go out soul winning through the week. I couldn’t seem to focus on anything the pastor was preaching. The only thing on my mind was ugh I am in trouble. Throughout that weekend, my tooth had been killing me; it was the worst toothache I had ever had. Meanwhile, church had finally let out and I sadly began my journey back to the college. On the back roads, Michigan Street in particular, there were three large men walking on the side of the dark road. My heart skipped a beat. The Spirit told me you need to stop and witness to them; my heart said you need to keep on driving I don’t want to die today. I decided to reason with God. I said (aloud), “God, if you get rid of this toothache, I will turn this car around and attempt to lead those men to You.” Like a smack in the face, God removed the toothache from me instantly. The smack in the face hurt worst than the toothache ever did. It was almost as if He said, “Daniel, did you seriously think a toothache would stop Me from spreading My word.” My heart sunk deeper in my chest. I knew I had to turn around. There was a local train station to the left. I kept my promise and turned the car around. I slowly approached the three men and the closer they got the worse the situation seemed. There was an older man in his mid 40s and two younger men in large fur coats. They were large, athletic looking men. I would later find out they were on their way home to downtown Gary, Indiana. Fearfully, I got out of my car asking, “Hey, do you guys need help?” “Yes, we ran out of gas.” The eldest replied, pointing to the broken down U-Haul on the highway. I told them to hop in the car and drove them to a nearby gas station. Without asking, I bought them a gas can and filled it up, and somehow one snuck a bottle of water on my tab. From the gas station, I drove them down a road adjacent to the highway their truck was on. I was close to letting them out, when I said, “Before I let you go, let me ask you a question.” I proceeded to lead them down the Romans road and to God’s glory, two of the three men received Christ as their Savior.
Give us your salvation testimony: When I was 5 years old in my living room in our home in Piscataway my sister, Lisa, shared with me the gospel plan that my father had shared with me before. This time it all made sense to me. On the green plaid couch I buried my head and accepted Christ’s free gift of salvation.
Of what ministries are you a part of? I am involved in the Junior Church, the Teen Ministry, Transportation Ministry, Soul Winning and the Nursing Home Ministry
